Let Gary Johnson debate.

The presidential debate commission should invite the Libertarian candidate to appear on stage, starting with the Sept. 26 debate. While he hasn’t cleared the arbitrary 15-percent threshold required on five national polls, he’s on the ballot in 50 states and the District of Columbia. He has been more successful on both fronts than Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

Polls indicate historically high unfavorable ratings for both the major candidates in this highly unusual election season. Johnson could do nothing but raise the tenor of the discussions. Witness his response to his embarrassing “What is Aleppo?” fumble Thursday: “This morning, I began my day by setting aside any doubt that I’m human.” It’s hard to imagine such a humble, straightforward utterance from Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

Let Johnson debate. U.S. voters have a right to hear him.
